Under Section 16 of the Architects
Registration Ordinance (ARO), ¡§a registered architect shall apply for
renewal of registration ¡K¡K¡K¡K¡K¡Knot earlier than 3 months and not later than
28 days prior to the expiry of the current registration¡¨. ¡§Where a
registered architect fails to renew his registration within time, the
Board may extend time for renewal of registration if the registered
architect pays to the Board the fee for the extension of time.¡¨ The ARO
also states that ¡§if the registration of a registered architect has
expired, the Board may require him to reapply for registration instead of
renewing his registration.¡¨ In response to comments made by a few registered architects (R.As.) on the amount of fee for extension of time for application of renewal charged by the Board, a review was made at the Board¡¦s meeting held on 25 January 2002. It was noted that ample notices regarding renewal of registration have been sent to each Registered Architect (R.A.). For those R.A. whose registration is due to expires on 1 January, a letter inviting R.A. to renew his/her registration will be sent well in advance in early October and a further reminder will follow in mid November as safeguard. The Board considered the fee of HK$530 for extension of time for renewal of registration appropriate for effective administration. The Board has no intention to inflict unnecessary penalty to R.As. and hope every R.A. would be able to apply for renewal in good time. Lam Wo Hei Chairman Architects Registration Board |
